Houston's Lush, Welcoming Ismaili Center Will Be a Spiritual Retreat for All
[H/T SIMERG] -- TEXASMONTHLY.COM -- In renderings, the Ismaili Center Houston looks destined to become an international landmark. Think paradise on the bayou. Ismaili centers are an invention of the Aga Khan. Houston's center will be the most public-focused yet, with an education wing, a black box theater, a cafe, flexible exhibition spaces, conference rooms, and social halls. Performances and gatherings will happen outside. David Leslie, the executive director of the Rothko Chapel, has collaborated with the Ismaili community for years. "So many people who are not Muslim have a very truncated view of Islam, and not always a very positive one," he says. He hopes the new center will give Texans a greater view into the diversity of the Islamic world. Now the Ismaili community is putting forward, in very public ways, key tenets of ...

New Saturday Series: The Best of Africa Ismaili
After an unavoidable hiatus, today we commence a new Saturday Series, the "Best of Africa Ismaili" collection. Founded and edited by Rai A.M. Sadaruddin, Africa Ismaili was a weekly magazine published in Nairobi from 1969 to 1973. During these few years it established itself as one of the premier magazines of Ismaili affairs, research and history published anywhere in the world. It received universal praise and accolades from all quarters, including Mawlana Hazar Imam, members of the Noorani Family, Ismaili and non-Ismaili scholars and, of course, the Jamat, the world over, for whom it was published. Following its demise, Rai Sadaruddin published over 150 of its best articles in the highly acclaimed 11 volume series "Best of Africa Ismaili: A Collection of Articles of Permanent Value." We are pleased to bring this collection for the reading pleasure and knowledge of the Jamat.

Ismaili Research Problems -- BoAI Vol 1
GOOGLE.COM -- Next to my mind comes an oral history department. It is high time that our research centres in India, Pakistan, Africa and Middle East should establish oral history departments. This means collecting the facts about the recent and not very remote history of our people orally from the elder generation which is fast disappearing. With them we shall lose a great heritage which has not been recorded. It is easy to understand that in the absence of organizations such as exist today, the history of our people has remained unrecorded particularly in the Middle East where we had practically no organizations and old traditions have passed from generation to generation by mouth. It is most essential that a batch of young ...

Think of Ismaili Digest as the Front Page of all the best Ismaili websites! Ismaili Digest automatically and continuously brings together all new articles, photos, videos, etc. from Ismaili websites -- like The Ismaili, Simerg, IIS, NanoWisdoms, AKDN, Ismailimail, etc. -- so you can see them all at once. Direct links to over 15,000 web-pages from the best Ismaili websites already available. Ismaili Digest saves you (and those who are not tech savvy, such as seniors) the effort of having to visit them one by one to keep up to date, or have your inbox cluttered with emails from each of them when they publish new content. In a busy world, our sense of belonging to our community sometimes tends to wither and fade (particularly for isolated Jamati members). We hope Ismaili Digest's simplicity and comprehensiveness will help you feel connected as well as feel the local and global pulse of the community. Like many other non-commercial, public-service thematic website aggregators, Ismaili Digest is just a thematic aggregator. We publish short 50-60 word digests of all their content and provide direct links to their original pages saving you time, extra page loads and clicks. For the website publishers, direct links ensure they'll get the maximum number of potential visitors reaching their content so their hard work gets the maximum exposure. Also featured are other important articles, research and opinions relevant to the community's well being, intellectual growth, best practises and administration. And all served with a drop of humour as well, because "we are a community that welcomes the smile!" Ismaili Digest is not associated with any private Ismaili website, whether aggregated by Ismaili Digest or not. All websites Ismaili Digest aggregates are independent websites run by their individual owners and we are not responsible for content they publish. |
