20 Minute Video Recap and Q&A of "The Ismaili Imamat: A Signature in History"
A few weeks after the first presentation of "The Ismaili Imamat: A Signature in History", a Q&A session was held in which a short recap of Signature as well as answers to some written questions were presented, followed by an open Q&A. We are pleased to make the videos of these available for the Jamat. The younger Jamat, especially in the West, do not often find traditional, philosophical arguments for God and the Imamat intellectually satisfying. "The Ismaili Imamat: A Signature in History" is a new objective assessment of the Ismaili Imamat's authenticity using a fresh, ground-breaking approach inspired by the fundamental principle that faith is, and always has been, evidence based. We are confident it will be of particular interest to parents, young adults, youth, especially high school and university students as well was the wider Jamat.

Bonhoeffer's Theory of Stupidity
YOUTUBE.COM -- SPROUTS -- [ISMAILI DIGEST ED: Hazrat Ali, Maxims of Ali: "Stupidity is a pain irremediable; a disease incurable."] ARTICLE: Dietrich Bonhoeffer argued that stupid people are more dangerous than evil ones because while we can protest against or fight evil people, against stupid ones we are defenseless -- reason falls on deaf ears and thus the stupid person is self-satisfied. There are human beings who are remarkably agile intellectually yet stupid, and others who are intellectually dull yet anything but stupid. People who live in solitude manifest this defect less frequently than individuals in groups. In conversation with a stupid person, one virtually feels that one is dealing not at all with him as a person, but with slogans, catchwords, and the like that have taken possession of him as if he is under a spell. Having thus become a mindless tool ...

The five universal laws of human stupidity
QZ.COM -- [ISMAILI DIGEST ED: Hazar Imam, 2016: "Public wisdom is not dependent on education."] ARTICLE: In 1976, Carlo M. Cipolla (d.2000), a professor of economic history at the University of California, Berkeley outlined 5 laws governing what he perceived as humanity's greatest existential threat: Stupidity. Stupid people, he explained, share several identifying traits: they are abundant, they are irrational, and they cause problems for others without apparent benefit to themselves. He argued there are no defenses against stupidity. ~~ Law 2: The probability that a particular person is stupid is independent of any other personal trait -- gender, race, nationality, education level, income. Every category one can imagine possesses a fixed percentage of stupid people. There are stupid college professors, stupid people at Davos and at the UN General Assembly, and in every nation on earth. How numerous ...

We Aren't Raising Adults. We Are Breeding Very Excellent Sheep.
BARIWEISS.SUBSTACK.COM -- I taught English at Yale University for ten years and mostly I taught what one of them herself called "excellent sheep." Excellent sheephood, like wokeness, is a species of conformity. Today's elite college students still regard themselves as children, and are still treated as such. The nature of the authority, parental as well as institutional, that the young now have is an authority that does not believe in authority, that does not believe in itself. It's an authority that wants to be liked, that wants to be your friend, that wants to be thought of as cool. That will never draw a line, that will always ultimately yield. Children can't be children if adults are not adults, but children also can't become adults. The 1960s broke authority, and ...

The Fatimids and the Founding of Cairo -- BoAI Vol #2
GOOGLE.COM -- On Tuesday, the 17th of Sha'ban, in the year 358 Hijri -- a day 1,000 years ago corresponding to July 6, 969 A.D. -- the victorious Fatimid General Jawhar, acting on the orders of the Caliph, Imam al-Muizz-li-din-Allah, laid the foundation of the city of alQahirah. This notable event, which also marked the opening of a glorious new chapter in the history of the Fatimid of North Africa, was attended by all the pomp and splendour of a dramatic moment in history. More than 100,000 panoplied soldiers, scores of noblemen in splendid garments and an uncounted number of the newly conquered people of nearby Fustat watched the historic ceremony as the lines of the new city were traced on the virgin earth. Cairo ...

Loneliness Is Not About Being Alone!
Portugal -- Loneliness is often defined as sadness, caused because one has no friends, company, or an intimate partner. The reality is that despite having those nurturing relationships, there are still strong feelings of being lonely, as we feel misunderstood, our expectations from these relationships are not realized, dreams and aspirations remain unsupported, the environment uncomfortable. Think of Ismaili Digest as the Front Page of all the best Ismaili websites! Ismaili Digest automatically and continuously brings together all new articles, photos, videos, etc. from Ismaili websites -- like The Ismaili, Simerg, IIS, NanoWisdoms, AKDN, Ismailimail, etc. -- so you can see them all at once. Direct links to over 15,000 web-pages from the best Ismaili websites already available. Ismaili Digest saves you (and those who are not tech savvy, such as seniors) the effort of having to visit them one by one to keep up to date, or have your inbox cluttered with emails from each of them when they publish new content. In a busy world, our sense of belonging to our community sometimes tends to wither and fade (particularly for isolated Jamati members). We hope Ismaili Digest's simplicity and comprehensiveness will help you feel connected as well as feel the local and global pulse of the community. Like many other non-commercial, public-service thematic website aggregators, Ismaili Digest is just a thematic aggregator. We publish short 50-60 word digests of all their content and provide direct links to their original pages saving you time, extra page loads and clicks. For the website publishers, direct links ensure they'll get the maximum number of potential visitors reaching their content so their hard work gets the maximum exposure. Also featured are other important articles, research and opinions relevant to the community's well being, intellectual growth, best practises and administration. And all served with a drop of humour as well, because "we are a community that welcomes the smile!" Ismaili Digest is not associated with any private Ismaili website, whether aggregated by Ismaili Digest or not. All websites Ismaili Digest aggregates are independent websites run by their individual owners and we are not responsible for content they publish. |
