Is America's Government Secular?
PRAGERU.COM -- It has become a dogma of progressive ideology that America is a "secular" nation. There is a problem with this claim, however: It's false. The words "separation of church and state" are not in the Constitution. What the Constitution does say is that Congress was forbidden from one, establishing a national church (on the model of the Church of England); and two, attempting to disestablish or interfering with the established churches that existed in some of the states. None of the Founding Fathers, including Jefferson who was among the least religious of them (though not an atheist), ever entertained the idea that ...

The True Meaning of Separation of Church and State
FORBES.COM -- America was founded on the idea of governance through family, church and community. Separation of church and state only meant the Federal Government could not elevate one denomination over others. Other than that our forefathers never sought to evict the church from society. Nor did the Constitution inhibit public displays of faith. On the contrary, the early Republic welcomed public worship. Even non-Christian founders thought religion essential. The Northwest Ordinance of 1787 states: "Religion, morality, and knowledge, being necessary to good government and the happiness of mankind..." Alexis de Tocqueville noted that Americans intertwined individual liberty with vibrant faith, stating "It is impossible to make them conceive the one without the other." Meanwhile, the French Revolution's "De-Christianization" ...

Despite all of the cultural pressure from the Left, the country is moving center-right
WASHINGTONEXAMINER.COM -- [ISMAILI DIGEST ED: Hazar Imam, 2006: "But if freedom of religion deteriorates into freedom from religion -- then societies will find themselves lost in a bleak and unpromising landscape -- with no compass, no roadmap and no sense of ultimate direction." ~~ Hazar Imam, 1965: "What does happen, and this is a danger, is that the left-wing attitudes tend not only to destroy the Faith of a man towards his religion but also the respect of one individual towards another."] ARTICLE: Twelve years ago, an "alert" was sent to the Freedom From Religion Foundation about a coach who led his team in short prayers. For decades, activists pushing freedom from religion have helped reshaped culture and traditions and last week's, already-famous, 6-3 Supreme Court ruling struck back. It is a massive, massive change that moves the country ever so slowly back to its center-right equilibrium after being dragged so hard toward the left by our cultural curators. Anyone paying attention to the down-ballot races in 2020, noticed voters were moving rightward because liberalism went from "Let's all coexist" to "If you don't agree with us, you're a bigot." That shift pushed a lot of evangelical voters to start voting on religious liberty. That constant beating of the bigot drum on everything, ...

Why Women Abort
HLI.ORG -- Americans are appallingly ignorant on abortion statistics. California college students believe abortion is illegal after the first trimester and that, in the United States, less than 100,000 abortions occur each year. The actual number is over 10 times more and, in many places [ED: including all of Canada], abortion is freely available through all nine months of pregnancy. Polls reveal that people believe the "hard cases" (rape, incest, women's health/lives, birth defects) account for anywhere from 25% to 50% of all abortions. The reality, from a survey of more than 2.4 million abortions, is that just 0.4% of abortions are for rape or incest and 3.5% for all "hard cases". Even the Guttmacher Institute (formerly the research arm of Planned Parenthood -- the largest American provider of abortions) puts the figures at less than 1.5% for rape or incest and 7% for all "hard cases". World-wide, the numbers are similar. In 1998, Guttmacher

Hasan Al-Basri and Real Sufism -- BoAI Vol #3
GOOGLE.COM -- When disagreeing with authorities, Hasan al-Basri approach was a two-fold loyalty -- to one's community and to one's conscience. The true Muslim must, above all, remain "loyal to his community," by respecting constituted authority and giving it his obedience. So while he refused to revolt, Hasan also refused to remain silent in the face of injustice. He constantly spoke of a Muslim's duty to not just observe the Law, but also urge his brethen to respect it. So, instead of keeping silent about the misdeeds of authorities, he reproached them, whether they were Caliphs or their Governors. Such was Hasan's attitude towards power and authority -- loyal and courageous, but nevertheless ill at ease. It pre-supposes not only ...

Direct links to over 15,000 web-pages from the best Ismaili websites already available. Ismaili Digest saves you (and those who are not tech savvy, such as seniors) the effort of having to visit them one by one to keep up to date, or have your inbox cluttered with emails from each of them when they publish new content. In a busy world, our sense of belonging to our community sometimes tends to wither and fade (particularly for isolated Jamati members). We hope Ismaili Digest's simplicity and comprehensiveness will help you feel connected as well as feel the local and global pulse of the community. Like many other non-commercial, public-service thematic website aggregators, Ismaili Digest is just a thematic aggregator. We publish short 50-60 word digests of all their content and provide direct links to their original pages saving you time, extra page loads and clicks. For the website publishers, direct links ensure they'll get the maximum number of potential visitors reaching their content so their hard work gets the maximum exposure. Also featured are other important articles, research and opinions relevant to the community's well being, intellectual growth, best practises and administration. And all served with a drop of humour as well, because "we are a community that welcomes the smile!" Ismaili Digest is not associated with any private Ismaili website, whether aggregated by Ismaili Digest or not. All websites Ismaili Digest aggregates are independent websites run by their individual owners and we are not responsible for content they publish. |
