Rubaiyat: A New Translation -- BoAI Vol #3
GOOGLE.COM -- Over the centuries, the delicate quatrains which made up the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam, have undergone numerous translations of shich Edward FitzGerald's 19th-century effort has, to date, had no rival. FitzGerald has been Omar Khayyam. Robert Graves, the prominent English poet, was chosen by Omar Ali-Shah, a Persian scholar whose family owns a twelfth-century manuscript of the Rubaiyat, to render a new, more faithful, English translation which was published last year. Robert Graves has done away with rhymes, about which FitzGerald was meticulous enough to attempt an exact reproduction of the Omar Khayyam rhyme-scheme. I quote here Graves's rendering of the first quatrain to compare with FitzGerald's, which I quoted earlier ...

The Facebook Feed Has Become The Internet's Suburban Sprawl
THEFEDERALIST.COM -- Expressways, neon lights, and concrete slabs might have a thing or two in common with our rising digital wasteland, littered with ads and pointless content.... As with the monotony of the highway strip, the Facebook feed leaves one's consciousness ebbing away, replaced by a kind of hypnosis leavened only by a vague discomfort. You are left wondering: Why does this exist? ...

20 Minute Video Recap and Q&A of "The Ismaili Imamat: A Signature in History"
A few weeks after the first presentation of "The Ismaili Imamat: A Signature in History", a Q&A session was held in which a short recap of Signature as well as answers to some written questions were presented, followed by an open Q&A. We are pleased to make the videos of these available for the Jamat. The younger Jamat, especially in the West, do not often find traditional, philosophical arguments for God and the Imamat intellectually satisfying. "The Ismaili Imamat: A Signature in History" is a new, highly acclaimed, objective assessment of the Ismaili Imamat's authenticity using a fresh, ground-breaking approach inspired by the fundamental principle that faith is, and always has been, evidence based. We are confident it will be of particular interest to parents, young adults, youth, especially high school and university students as well was the wider Jamat.

Think of Ismaili Digest as the Front Page of all the best Ismaili websites! Ismaili Digest automatically and continuously brings together all new articles, photos, videos, etc. from Ismaili websites -- like The Ismaili, Simerg, IIS, NanoWisdoms, AKDN, Ismailimail, etc. -- so you can see them all at once. Direct links to over 15,000 web-pages from the best Ismaili websites already available. Ismaili Digest saves you (and those who are not tech savvy, such as seniors) the effort of having to visit them one by one to keep up to date, or have your inbox cluttered with emails from each of them when they publish new content. In a busy world, our sense of belonging to our community sometimes tends to wither and fade (particularly for isolated Jamati members). We hope Ismaili Digest's simplicity and comprehensiveness will help you feel connected as well as feel the local and global pulse of the community. Like many other non-commercial, public-service thematic website aggregators, Ismaili Digest is just a thematic aggregator. We publish short 50-60 word digests of all their content and provide direct links to their original pages saving you time, extra page loads and clicks. For the website publishers, direct links ensure they'll get the maximum number of potential visitors reaching their content so their hard work gets the maximum exposure. Also featured are other important articles, research and opinions relevant to the community's well being, intellectual growth, best practises and administration. And all served with a drop of humour as well, because "we are a community that welcomes the smile!" Ismaili Digest is not associated with any private Ismaili website, whether aggregated by Ismaili Digest or not. All websites Ismaili Digest aggregates are independent websites run by their individual owners and we are not responsible for content they publish. |
