3rd Imam - Zayn al-Abidin - by Mumtaz Ali Tajddin
GOOGLE.COM -- Zayn al-Abidin (ornament of the pious) was born in Medina on 38/658. He would feed the hungry at night, from one to three hundred families; and in daytime, he would have a hundred sheep a day killed for meat, which would be distributed to the needy people. Much of his time he spent sitting on an old piece of matting, fasting all day, or eating a little barely bread. When the soldiers of Yazid were bent on destroying Imam Hussain and his dear ones at Karbala, sparing neither old nor young, the survival of Imam Zayn al-Abidin was nothing but a miracle. His severe illness ...

Public Schools Are Losing Their Captive Audience of Children
REASON.COM -- [ISMAILI DIGEST ED: Hazar Imam, 2006: "Governments alone cannot meet the educational challenges of the 21st century. Nor can private institutions ... The answer lies in the expanding role of voluntary institutions ... dedicated to community values and the public good."] ARTICLE: 18.DEC.2020 -- Insisting that "the push to reopen schools is rooted in sexism, racism and misogyny," the Chicago Teachers Union is fighting plans to return children to the city's public school classrooms. With similar battles playing out around the country, many families are heading for the exits. Public school enrollment is down in California, Colorado, Massachusetts, Maine, Mississippi, and elsewhere. Homeschooling, however, is booming. In 2016 3.3% of children were homeschooled. That share roughly tripled this year to 9%. Gallup agrees. Families are leaving politicized lessons behind and the world they're creating is more diverse in terms of its ideas and better suited to the needs of parents and children. That shift is likely to permanently transform American education ...

His Highness the Aga Khan on volunteering time and knowledge
Antonio Marujo/Faranaz Keshavjee: The Ismailis are known as a very generous community in material terms. However, during these Golden Jubilee celebrations, you have introduced the notion of Time and Knowledge. What is it about? Aga Khan: In Shia Islam, intellect is a key component of faith. Intellect allows us to understand the creation of God. We live in a world in ...

20 Minute Video Recap and Q&A of "The Ismaili Imamat: A Signature in History"
A few weeks after the first presentation of "The Ismaili Imamat: A Signature in History", a Q&A session was held in which a short recap of Signature as well as answers to some written questions were presented, followed by an open Q&A. We are pleased to make the videos of these available for the Jamat. The younger Jamat, especially in the West, do not often find traditional, philosophical arguments for God and the Imamat intellectually satisfying. "The Ismaili Imamat: A Signature in History" is a new, highly acclaimed, objective assessment of the Ismaili Imamat's authenticity using a fresh, ground-breaking approach inspired by the fundamental principle that faith is, and always has been, evidence based. We are confident it will be of particular interest to parents, young adults, youth, especially high school and university students as well was the wider Jamat.

Vegetable Seekh Kebabs
Healthy Hints A healthier alternative to fried kebabs. Traditionally this dish is made with paneer, which is a full-fat cheese, but the cottage cheese works just as well. Or make home made paneer with skimmed milk and use that instead. 1 tsp root ginger, minced 1 medium potato, boiled and mashed 1 medium carrot, grated 75 g (½ cup) frozen pea, ...

Think of Ismaili Digest as the Front Page of all the best Ismaili websites! Ismaili Digest automatically and continuously brings together all new articles, photos, videos, etc. from Ismaili websites -- like The Ismaili, Simerg, IIS, NanoWisdoms, AKDN, Ismailimail, etc. -- so you can see them all at once. Direct links to over 15,000 web-pages from the best Ismaili websites already available. Ismaili Digest saves you (and those who are not tech savvy, such as seniors) the effort of having to visit them one by one to keep up to date, or have your inbox cluttered with emails from each of them when they publish new content. In a busy world, our sense of belonging to our community sometimes tends to wither and fade (particularly for isolated Jamati members). We hope Ismaili Digest's simplicity and comprehensiveness will help you feel connected as well as feel the local and global pulse of the community. Like many other non-commercial, public-service thematic website aggregators, Ismaili Digest is just a thematic aggregator. We publish short 50-60 word digests of all their content and provide direct links to their original pages saving you time, extra page loads and clicks. For the website publishers, direct links ensure they'll get the maximum number of potential visitors reaching their content so their hard work gets the maximum exposure. Also featured are other important articles, research and opinions relevant to the community's well being, intellectual growth, best practises and administration. And all served with a drop of humour as well, because "we are a community that welcomes the smile!" Ismaili Digest is not associated with any private Ismaili website, whether aggregated by Ismaili Digest or not. All websites Ismaili Digest aggregates are independent websites run by their individual owners and we are not responsible for content they publish. |
