Tuesday's Teachings (From Life)
Nobel Laurete Joseph Brodsky's 1989 Dartmouth College Commencement Address: In Praise of Boredom
MATIANE.WORDPRESS.COM -- Nobody is as bored as the rich, for money buys time, so expect boredom to hit as soon as the tools of self-gratification become available. In general, a man shooting heroin does so largely for the same reason you buy a video: to dodge the redundancy of time. When hit by boredom, go for it. Boredom is your window on time's infinity and teaches you the most valuable lesson in life: your utter insignificance. "You are finite", time tells you through the voice of boredom, "and whatever you do is, from my point of view, futile." The sense of futility, of limited significance even of your best actions, is better than the illusion of their consequences and the attendant self-aggrandizement. Boredom puts your existence into its perspective. The more you learn about your own size, the more humble and compassionate you become to ...

20 Minute Video Recap and Q&A of "The Ismaili Imamat: A Signature in History"
A few weeks after the first presentation of "The Ismaili Imamat: A Signature in History", a Q&A session was held in which a short recap of Signature as well as answers to some written questions were presented, followed by an open Q&A. We are pleased to make the videos of these available for the Jamat. The younger Jamat, especially in the West, do not often find traditional, philosophical arguments for God and the Imamat intellectually satisfying. "The Ismaili Imamat: A Signature in History" is a new, highly acclaimed, objective assessment of the Ismaili Imamat's authenticity using a fresh, ground-breaking approach inspired by the fundamental principle that faith is, and always has been, evidence based. We are confident it will be of particular interest to parents, young adults, youth, especially high school and university students as well was the wider Jamat.

Top 25+ Quotes by Richard P. Feynman (Nobel Prize in Physics in 1965)
AZQUOTES.COM -- I would rather have questions that can't be answered than answers that can't be questioned. ~~ If you can't explain something to a first year student, then you haven't really understood. ~~ Don't pay attention to "authorities," think for yourself. ~~ Science is the belief in the ignorance of experts.~~ If you thought that science was certain -- well, that is just an error on your part. ~~ We never are definitely right, we can only be sure we are wrong. ~~ I learned very early the difference between knowing the name of something and knowing something. ~~ The first principle is that you must not fool yourself and you are the easiest person to fool. ...

Think of Ismaili Digest as the Front Page of all the best Ismaili websites! Ismaili Digest automatically and continuously brings together all new articles, photos, videos, etc. from Ismaili websites -- like The Ismaili, Simerg, IIS, NanoWisdoms, AKDN, Ismailimail, etc. -- so you can see them all at once. Direct links to over 15,000 web-pages from the best Ismaili websites already available. Ismaili Digest saves you (and those who are not tech savvy, such as seniors) the effort of having to visit them one by one to keep up to date, or have your inbox cluttered with emails from each of them when they publish new content. In a busy world, our sense of belonging to our community sometimes tends to wither and fade (particularly for isolated Jamati members). We hope Ismaili Digest's simplicity and comprehensiveness will help you feel connected as well as feel the local and global pulse of the community. Like many other non-commercial, public-service thematic website aggregators, Ismaili Digest is just a thematic aggregator. We publish short 50-60 word digests of all their content and provide direct links to their original pages saving you time, extra page loads and clicks. For the website publishers, direct links ensure they'll get the maximum number of potential visitors reaching their content so their hard work gets the maximum exposure. Also featured are other important articles, research and opinions relevant to the community's well being, intellectual growth, best practises and administration. And all served with a drop of humour as well, because "we are a community that welcomes the smile!" Ismaili Digest is not associated with any private Ismaili website, whether aggregated by Ismaili Digest or not. All websites Ismaili Digest aggregates are independent websites run by their individual owners and we are not responsible for content they publish. |
