SAVINGMESAYNAK.COM -- The save Mes Aynak movement is a race against time to save a 5,000-year-old archaeological site in Afghanistan threatened by a Chinese state-owned copper mine closing in on the ancient site, eager to harvest $100 billion dollars worth of copper buried directly beneath the archaeological ruins. Only 10% of Mes Aynak has been excavated, though, and some believe future discoveries at the site have the potential to redefine the history of Afghanistan and the history of Buddhism itself. Qadir Temori and his fellow Afghan archaeologists face what seems an impossible battle against the Chinese, the Taliban and local politics to save their cultural heritage from likely erasure. ...
YOUTUBE.COM -- KARTEMQUIN FILMS -- Our award-winning film "Saving Mes Aynak" follows archaeologist Qadir Temori in his race against time to save this 5,000-year-old Afghan Buddhist archeological site from imminent demolition. "Saving Mes Aynak" examines the conflict between cultural preservation and economic opportunity, through the lens of the Afghan archaeologists and local villagers who live and work near Mes Aynak. Our major goal is to raise mass awareness of the impending demolition, creating an international movement to put pressure on the mining company, the Afghanistan government, and UNESCO to make Mes Aynak a World Heritage Site. But only the Afghan government can approach UNESCO. This is the ONLY WAY to #SAVEMESAYNAK. Join the Global #SaveMesAynak Movement. Take to social media! Help us translate our film. THEFEDERALIST.COM -- [ISMAILI DIGEST ED: Hazrat Ali: "One of the greatest of crimes is to destroy a work of art."] ARTICLE: Art does not need moral justification. We should not tear down the Coliseum in Rome, the pyramids, nor have allowed the Taliban to blast the Bamiyan Buddhas. It doesn't matter if we don't approve of their original uses. Furthermore, art needs to remain in its setting. Especially memorial sculpture and architecture. You move around it and consider it in relation to the background, the landscape, or wherever it is. In fact, for a lot of modern sculptures, the work is explicitly that relationship between the location and the piece. Time and change become part of a piece. Let time take care of things, as it always does. Nothing lasts and everything passes without human aid. But spare a thought ...

EVIEMAGAZINE.COM -- I've had so many friends tell me how worried they'll stay single forever, or how much a guy they're seeing disappointed them, or how all the good guys are taken. Which lead me to think that we, as women, really need to observe the qualities that make for a good guy, to understand what exactly makes a guy "husband material." I was struck by Captain America, and in my humble opinion, we need look no further than him for the image of such a man. He possesses the very best aspects of masculinity. He uses his strength to protect, respects women, and sacrifices himself for the greater good, all while remaining unapologetically manly. In short, Captain America is ...
