CSMONITOR.COM -- The Bangla Sahib Gurdwara has remained open through wars and plagues, serving thousands of people food. During India's coronavirus lockdown about four dozen men have kept the Sikh temple's kitchen open, cooking up to 100,000 meals a day. Soon they expect to be making 300,000 - all provided free to the growing ranks of the unfortunate. Bangla Sahib uses donated ingredients and equipment, Mr. Singh Sirsa said. Each day, government trucks pick up and distribute the meals to a network of shelters and drop-off points, but pays nothing for the food. Anticipating many months of hardship ahead, Sirsa appears nightly on the Bangla Sahib's own TV channel to appeal for more donations. A man from Montreal recently pledged $10,000, another from London offered $100,000, he said. The dining hall heaves with sacks of rice, flour, lentils, ...

THEFEDERALIST.COM -- According to the National Center for Education Statistics, the USA has about 57 million school-aged children, about 2.5 million of which are homeschooled. That could jump 500% to 10 million, or more, this fall. According to an EdChoice poll, more than half of parents now have a more favorable view of homeschooling. A Real Clear Opinion poll found 41% of parents [split between Democrats and Republicans] are more likely to homeschool this fall. An unofficial Reason Foundation Facebook poll suggests that about 15% of children may switch to homeschooling this fall. Parents are thinking twice about sending kids back to schools that may be forced to administer temperature checks, hand sanitizer, face masks, social isolation, and staggered classes upon reopening. Harvard Law School alum, author, Supreme Court clerk, and homeschool graduate Alex Harris says ...
THEFEDERALIST.COM -- As a public school teacher for nearly 10 years, I'd known about homeschooling families, but I had negatively stereotyped them. I assumed homeschooling to be fairly ridiculous until my son came home crying nearly every day of second grade begging me to homeschool him. That was 9 years ago and I've never regretted my choice. One year after starting, I pulled out his two elementary-aged siblings, and I've witnessed them do, learn, and be things I never thought possible at their ages thanks to the opportunities afforded them outside a traditional school setting. We've had time to discuss current events, politics, interpersonal relationships, morals, values, and dreams. People are often shocked to learn that ...

Sifting through centuries of mythmaking, Reza Aslan sheds new light on Jesus within the context of the times in which he lived: the age of zealotry.
