They believe that reasoning is the royal road to moral truth, and that people who reason well are more likely to act morally. However, as an intuitionist, I say worship of reason is one of the longest-lived Western delusions: the rationalist delusion. Anyone who values truth should stop worshipping reason. French scientists concluded that most of the bizarre research findings make perfect sense once you see *reasoning does not help us find truth but, rather, argue and persuade other people.* "Skilled arguers... are not after the truth but arguments supporting their views." Individuals are really good at finding evidence to support their existing, usually intuitive, positions.
