GOOGLE.COM -- [ISMAILI DIGEST ED: Hazar Imam, 2003: "Education must also stimulate students to consider a variety of perspectives on some of the fundamental questions posed by the human condition: 'What is truth?' 'What is reality?' and 'What are my duties to my fellow man, to my country and to God?'"] ARTICLE: Today [1944] the whole world is convinced of the importance of teaching religion in schools. But this task can be made very difficult if our schools were dominated by non-Ismaili staff. As a Christian educationist warned: "We have had evidence that, in some instances, the attitude of individual administrators and educators may be aggressively opposed to religion in any form [and] lack of agreement on deeper questions makes the task of moral education immensely more difficult when members of the staff of the school entertain different views regarding the ultimate meaning and purpose of life." ... I cannot refrain from commenting on the tendency of the heads of the schools of treating religion as "just another subject." This attitude is most harmful especially if ...

ARCHDAILY.COM -- In the 9th century AD, Muslim scholars made remarkable contributions to the sciences and humanities in Bagdad's Bayt al-Hikma, or House of Wisdom, a library and research center housing the world's largest collection of books for scholars to engage both theological and scientific matters. Today's religious climate could use such freedom to pursue knowledge alongside religious practice. With the support of local leaders, women, and youth, the Hikma project re-introduces these values embedded in Islam itself, by transforming a derelict mosque into a library that shares its site with a new mosque for the village of Dandaji in Niger. The project is a culture and education hub where the secular and religious peacefully co-exist to cultivate minds and strengthen the community. ...

RT.COM -- [ISMAILI DIGEST ED: Hazar Imam's 1996 remark, against stereotyping individuals by group identities, is even more relevant today given societal trends over the past decade: "Is there not something intellectually uncouth about those who choose to perceive one billion people of any faith as a standardised mass?"] ARTICLE: Ordinary people in Russia and Ukraine shouldn't be blamed for the conflict, Paulo Coelho has said. The world-famous author of "The Alchemist" said the "Ukraine crisis" has become a "convenient excuse for Russophobia." Russian nationals living abroad have faced widespread abuse since Moscow decided to send troops into its neighboring country. Among other things, victims spoke about Russian kids brawling with their Norwegian classmates, a Russian woman being denied service at a restaurant in New Zealand and world famous musicians Valery Gergiev and Anna Netrebko losing their jobs in Germany. The trend took some ridiculous forms like Russian cats and dogs being barred from taking part in exhibitions abroad. Coelho also ...

RT.COM -- [ISMAILI DIGEST ED: While we normally do not post on political matters, we are posting on the situation in Ukraine because it is an invaluable case study about Big Tech and Western media.] ARTICLE: When is "hate speech" not hate speech? When it's directed against the approved targets, of course -- at least according to Facebook, which altered its guidelines to allow calls for violence against Russians in certain countries. "We have temporarily made allowances for political expression for violent speech such as 'death to the Russian invaders'," a spokesman confirmed after Reuters cited internal emails. Would Meta create this exception for, say, Syria, Iran, Iraq, or Libya to allow calls for violence against Americans? Of course not. How about in Yemen, against the Saudis or Emiratis mercilessly bombing and occupying parts of the country since 2015? Not a chance. But hating Russians? That's not just allowed, it's encouraged -- one might even say expected. It's a remarkable coincidence ...
GOOGLE.COM -- The other day a religious teacher told me he was studying accountancy because his teaching salary was not adequate. He said, if he could not save how could he give his children a good education. When I was on the Government bursary committees we gave special consideration to children of teachers. The reason is obvious. Teachers salaries are limited and their savings meagre. The community should take responsibility of higher education of teachers' children....
