[H/T MOHIB EBRAHIM] -- FS.BLOG -- Most people don't often say what they think. How often do you bite your tongue because you know you hold an unpopular view? We only express opinions that seem safe and our perception "safe" comes from clues we pick up about what we think everyone else believes. The internet lets a vocal minority make their opinions seem far more widespread than they actually are. Consequently, that minority end up having a disproportionate influence on public discourse, especially if that minority already has a lot of power. The end result of the spiral of silence is that no one publicly voices a minority opinion, regardless of how many people believe it. Our desire to fit in with others means ...
[H/T MOHIB EBRAHIM] -- YOUTUBE.COM -- CSLEWISDOODLE -- [ISMAILI DIGEST ED: Mawlana Sultan Muhammad Shah, 1954: "Creation is not a unique act in a given time but a perpetual and constant event; and God supports and sustains all existence at every moment by His will and His thought." And 1899: "You must ask yourself: where did Adam come from?"] ARTICLE: In the history of the universe the Laws of Nature have never produced a single event. They are the pattern to which every event must conform, provided it can be induced to happen. I had had a vague idea that the Laws of Nature could make things happen. I now saw that this was like thinking that you could increase your income by doing sums about it. So where, then, do actual events come from? Each comes from a previous event. What if you trace this process backwards? That leads to a mystery outside natural science. Perhaps some mighty will is at work -- not now and then on specially "providential" occasions, but at every moment. And ...
