FOXNEWS.COM -- In a letter to President Biden, Jim Banks and 14 House Republicans are demanding answers regarding the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor's (DRL) new grant program. The letter states that the DRL's Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) announced it "would award grants of up to $500,000 to organizations committed to the practice and spread of atheism and humanism, namely in South/Central Asia and in the Middle East/North Africa.... In the NOFO, the State Department characterizes atheists as a unique religious group while then encouraging the building of 'networks and advocacy groups' for atheists ... This would be analogous to official State Department promotion of religious freedom 'particularly for Christians' in China, with the express goal being to build a corresponding missionary network." "Any such program ...
VICE.COM -- Banana. Bapple. Para tú. Poulet tikka masala. Minionese is largely a gibberish language, but it also contains the odd English, French, Spanish, Japanese, Italian, Chinese, French, Russian, Filipino and Korean word. "The magic of understanding what they're feeling or saying isn't the words, but more the music. Just by the melody of a sentence, you could understand if they were angry, if they were pissed, if one was telling a joke and the other wasn't finding it funny," says director Pierre Coffin. In hindsight, Minionese's mix of languages paved the way for global domination. But, crucially, the fact that Minions largely spoke in gibberish meant that people could easily put words into their mouths. For the better part ...

HARVARD.EDU -- At night, light throws the body's biological clock -- the circadian rhythm -- out of whack. Sleep suffers. Even a mere eight lux -- a level of brightness about twice that of a night light -- affects the circadian rhythm, notes Stephen Lockley, a Harvard sleep researcher. Worse, research shows that disrupting the circadian rhythm may contribute to the causation of cancer, diabetes, heart disease, and obesity. Blue wavelengths seem to be the most disruptive at night and the proliferation of electronics with screens, as well as energy-efficient lighting, is increasing our exposure to blue wavelengths. Protect yourself from blue light at night: Avoid looking at screens (TV, computers, tablets, mobile devices, etc.) beginning two to three hours before bed. If ...
BUSTLE.COM -- Stay away from your phone two hours before bedtime. Swap out your evening Instagram scroll for a book, and you might feel a world of difference in the morning. Use software and apps that reduce blue light levels. For example, F.lux automatically adjusts your computer's display as it gets darker outside, so that the display doesn't feel as bright and emits less blue light. Similarly use the night shift setting on your iPhone to adjust the color temperature of your phone display to reduce the blue light at night. Go to "Settings," then "Display and Brightness." You should see the option for Night Shift there. Set screen time hours and ...
THEEPOCHTIMES.COM -- Although we may not like to admit it, many of the sleep problems we experience are the result of bad habits and behaviors. We stay up late or sleep in late. We eat foods that disagree with us or enjoy a drink late at night, oblivious to their disruptive impact on our sleep rhythms. Over time, we teach our body not to sleep and for relief we often turn to sleeping pills, which mask rather than solve the problem, and can lead to addiction. Ultimately for real success, with insomnia as with any chronic problem, one must look for the underlying imbalances and root causes and address those. Here are the common sleep "mistakes" I see in my practice and their solutions. Mistake #1: Not ...
GOOGLE.COM -- Omar Khayyam's whole being was his craving and yearning for the vision of Unity, for he full well saw that the end of Sufism was total absorption in God. He was a humble devotee of "The Existing One", i.e. God and that he was Sufi of the highest order, a Sufi of Sufis. Out of several meanings attached to the word "Sufi," I favour the following: Sufis themselves connect this word with the Arabic root "Safi" -- Saf which signifies what is pure. Now were we to judge rightly, the most wonderful fact about the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam is that it contains something more than mere pessimism because beneath it lies a positive doctrine of life as well. It is only when we approach its ...

THEFEDERALIST.COM -- [ISMAILI DIGEST ED: Hazar Imam, 2002: "I mean, we're talking about very basic issues. Think of the food, the food rebellions that you had when the IMF amongst others said you've got to correct your economy. People couldn't buy their food. You know, how can you expect young people not to react? That is so basic to human rights."] ARTICLE: In Sri Lanka, the 2021 inflation surge became a full-scale economic crisis thanks to climate radicalism. Fooled by European Green Deal propaganda to reduce nitrogen emissions, the government implemented a ban on chemical fertilizers, even though 15 of its 22 million people rely on farming, and over 90% them use chemical fertilizers. After the ban, one-third of farmland lay dormant, and 85% of farmers faced crop losses of 50% to 60%. Rice production fell by 20% and prices jumped 50% in just six months. Worst yet, the fertilizer ban hit the tea industry, Sri Lanka's second-highest export. These exports paid for 71% of the country's food imports. After the ban, the tea industry crashed to a 23-year low. Even the European Union, is noticing the Green Deal isn't a good one. Earlier ...
THEEPOCHTIMES.COM -- The Netherlands is world's 5th largest food exporter. However, its government has proposed slashing livestock numbers by 30% to meet Climate Change nitrogen emissions targets. Some parts of the country would have to slash emissions by 70% or even 95%. New Zealand reported "The [Dutch] Minister of Nature and Nitrogen Policy expects about a third of the 50,000 Dutch farms to 'disappear' by 2030." While the United States openly acknowledges that "there is not a future for all [Dutch] farmers within [this] approach." Sri Lanka's ban on chemical fertilizers, to also reduce nitrogen emissions, contributed to an economic crisis that has now destabilized the government. The UN Secretary-General warned on June 24 that "there is a real risk that multiple famines will be declared in 2022," adding that ...

RT.COM -- [ISMAILI DIGEST ED: While we normally do not post on political matters, we are posting on the situation in Ukraine because it is an invaluable case study about Big Tech and Western media. Hazar Imam, 2006: "Journalists transmit superficial rhetoric and slight underlying realities."] ARTICLE: America's sudden love affair with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky is reminiscent of the West's 1940s campaign to beautify Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin's image. Just 5 years after the Great Purge, when Stalin killed about a million people, Collier's magazine claimed the USSR was evolving "toward something resembling our own and Great Britain's democracy." The New York Times agreed. Similarly today, Zelensky and his army are portrayed as heroic, freedom fighters. However, in 2018, before Russia's military offensive, Reuters pointed out that Ukrainian volunteer militias use Nazi symbolism and recruit Hitler acolytes. Today Ukraine's fascist elements are whitewashed. The fact is Ukraine incorporated neo-nazi militias, including the Azov Battalion, into its National Guard after the country's democratically elected leadership was overthrown in a US-backed coup in 2014. And, once World War II ended, ...

GOOGLE.COM -- Persian mystical poetry may be described as a harmony of religion, philosophy, and art constituting the deepest and finest expression of the Persian spirit in its outlook upon life or, in other words, as a synthesis of thought, feeling, and imagination which appeals to the entirety of human nature. That is why, though seen only in the dim glass of translation, it casts a spell over men like Hegel, Goethe, and Emerson. Pioneering Sufi poets turned to a native and familiar form of verse -- the "rub'ai" or quatrain. Unlike the "ghazals" and , "qasidas" of contemporary court poetry, which imitate Arabic models and are seldom free from artificiality, the "ruba'i" made no pretensions to learning and could readily be adapted to express mystical thought ...
